Our Committees

This committee aims to empower female scientists in the workplace, inspire girls to pursue science careers, and organise inclusive, family-friendly activities and talks addressing topics pertinent to women in academia open for everyone to attend. The Women Research & Equity Committee aims to: For women scientists: Empower women in research careers by providing tools to combat workplace discrimination, fostering professional growth through capacity building, leadership, and self-esteem activities, and supporting work-family balance with family-friendly events and shared experience groups. We also organise inclusive, family-friendly activities and talks addressing topics pertinent to women in academia open for everyone to attend. For school teachers of future women scientists: Encourage girls to pursue STEM careers by offering age-appropriate activities featuring female scientist role models or stories written by women scientists. For the general public: Increase awareness of women's contributions to research by showcasing the work of women in STEM, emphasising the importance of their research, and highlighting gender equality in research capabilities, leadership, and management. We are a very active committee searching for new volunteers to join us to either help us to run our current initiatives or to bring your own ideas. We will provide all the necessary tools and contacts to make them happen. 2026: February 5 Presentation of the "White Paper on Gender Policies in Science and Academia" at the Embassy of Spain in the United Kingdom. February 6 To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11F), the SRUK/CERU women researcher volunteers took center stage at the Instituto Vicente Cañada Blanch.

The Science-me a Story committee was formed by 5 enthusiasts who love science and scientific outreach through literature and stories. Being a part of this team means participating in the organization of the contest and the dissemination activities of Science-me a Story and audiobooks, creating a network of institutional collaborators both in Spain and the United Kingdom.

The 'En Foco' committee is composed of a team passionate about photography and research, sharing the same idea of combining both tools to disseminate and communicate research in a 100% visual manner. The committee organises the SRUK/CERU 'Investigación Εn Foco' photography competition, open to SRUK/CERU members and SRUK/CERU friends.

Being the most artistic team at SRUK/CERU, the Design Committee blends talents from graphic design, art, illustration, and beyond. If you are passionate about graphic design, art, and science equally, or want to learn how art and design can improve your science communication, this is the team for you!

The Social Media Committee of SRUK/CERU aims to strengthen the community and visibility of Spanish researchers in the United Kingdom through the management and dissemination of content across digital platforms. This committee works to create a dynamic space where members can share news, scientific advances, events, and opportunities, facilitating communication and exchange between researchers and the general public. Furthermore, the Social Media Committee promotes strategies to encourage active participation and engagement within the community, supporting SRUK/CERU’s mission to connect and integrate Spanish scientists in the UK and to promote Spanish science internationally.

“En Fase Experimental” is a radio podcast produced by the SRUK Radio Team at the Press Department of SRUK/CERU.

The Mentoring committee organises our SRUK/CERU Mentoring Programme, which is designed to help and support less experienced researchers starting or have recently started a career in the UK. By connecting them to a suitable mentor with expertise in their field of interest, SRUK/CERU aims to maximise new opportunities for mentees and help them plan a successful career path.

The Cancer Committee comprises researchers and professionals dedicated to advancing cancer research and fostering collaboration among members in the field of oncology. The committee's primary goals center around promoting scientific excellence, facilitating knowledge exchange, and addressing critical challenges concerning cancer research and treatment for both researchers and the general public.

This exciting initiative is a great opportunity to gather Spanish researchers in the UK working in the field of Neuroscience. Our main objectives are:

• Collaboration, we want to establish a network of researchers and professionals to exchange ideas, discuss concerns, provide support to new members, and have fun.
• Visibility, we want to shine a spotlight on the exceptional work of Spanish researchers in the field of Neuroscience through social and scientific events, collaborations and outreach efforts-
• Bringing neuroscience to the general public, our committee will actively work to bridge the gap between scientists and the general public through educational programs and public lectures.

The goal of this committee is to design and propose a number of linguistic policies and events in relation to the promotion of multilingualism as part of the association's communications and activities, but also in the programming of events and interactions between members in order to encourage, alongside the use of English, the use of Spanish and the rest of the co-official languages of Spain.

The Evolution Committee has been created with the following objectives:

• Connect SRUK/CERU members that work in evolution and/or are interested in topics related to this research area.
• Promote outreach in evolution for both lay and technical audiences.
• Organise discussion groups, mini symposia, and other scientific activities related to evolution.
• Foster collaborations regarding topics in the field of evolution between Spain and the United Kingdom (e.g., phylogenomics, systematics, palaentology, etc.).

The Environment committee aims to create a space for networking, collaboration and support between SRUK/CERU members across the UK with a common research interest and the following objectives:

• To promote the research related to Plant Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences by SRUK/CERU members.
• To create a collaborative network of stakeholders with an interest in Plant Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences, including academia, research agencies, government, industry, and any research-related sector in the UK and Spain.
• To organise events related to Plant Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences and liaise with these researchers in the UK and Spain.
