WOMEN AND GLOBAL CHALLENGES

City: London
Date: Saturday, 2nd February 2019, 10:00-17:00
Venue: To be confirmed

An all-day event that will focus on women as a key group that requires specific and immediate participation for society to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, proposed by the United Nations, before 2030. We will explore how most of these global challenges (access to education, hunger, war and forced migration, the wage gap, etc.) mainly affect women, while there is a lack of gender representation in several of the managerial fields addressing these challenges. It will also explore how women use science and technology to provide solutions to gender problems, improving their status and well-being.

As a second part of the event, a roundtable will evaluate the real impact of campaigns to encourage girls in STEM disciplines in the United Kingdom and Spain. A dialogue will be opened between the two scientific systems and explore ways in which both systems can improve their gender representation throughout the scientific career.

Confirmed panelists:

Dr Jessica Wade (Postdoctoral research associate in Plastic Electronics, Imperial College London, and Honourable Mention Wikimedian of the Year 2018)
Dr Pavel Ovseiko (Senior research fellow in Health Policy and Management, University of Oxford).
