On 3–4 September 2026, SRUK/CERU Language Policy Committee hosted the DARIAH-EU International Workshop “Research Data Management Tools and Strategies for Language Diversity” at The University of Edinburgh.
The workshop was funded by DARIAH-EU (the pan-European research infrastructure for arts and humanities scholars) and brought together researchers, librarians, research data specialists, language educators and research managers from the University of Edinburgh and institutions across the UK and Europe. This combination of academic and professional expertise created a valuable environment in which participants could examine how multilingualism affects the ways research is designed, supported, managed, shared and reused.
Over two days, participants explored four interconnected themes:
- multilingualism and ethical research
- implementing multilingualism within research infrastructures
- standards for multilingual research data and metadata reuse
- artificial intelligence, research data management and data relating to under-resourced languages
Flash presentations and a project carousel introduced perspectives from DARIAH and multilingual digital humanities initiatives at SRUK/CERU.
We would like to thank all participants, including Sara Franco Ortega, President of SRUK/CERU, for their generous engagement and thoughtful contributions. The workshop organising committee and DARIAH will continue working to develop, review and publish the workshop outcomes on DARIAH-Campus, ensuring that the knowledge and resources generated during the workshop can support both the University community and the wider international research landscape.
