Professor Carola García de Vinuesa has been awarded the 2026 ACES–Margarita Salas Award in Biomedical Sciences, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to biomedical research.
Professor García de Vinuesa was nominated by SRUK/CERU for this prestigious award. Her research has made significant contributions to our understanding of the genetic and cellular mechanisms that regulate the immune system, with a particular focus on the causes and mechanisms underlying autoimmune diseases.
Her work has contributed to advancing our understanding of diseases such as lupus and has helped identify new pathways that may inform future approaches to diagnosis and treatment. Throughout her career, she has combined fundamental research with a strong commitment to understanding the biological mechanisms that underpin human disease.
The ACES–Margarita Salas Awards recognise outstanding Spanish researchers and scientists whose careers and achievements have made significant contributions to their respective fields. The awards also celebrate the international presence and impact of Spanish scientific talent abroad.
The award ceremony took place on 18 September 2026 in Stockholm, at the Residence of the Embassy of Spain in Sweden, bringing together representatives of the Spanish scientific and academic community in Sweden.
For SRUK/CERU, Professor García de Vinuesa’s recognition represents an important celebration of Spanish scientific excellence and of the contribution of researchers working internationally.
