After the success of the I SRUK/CERU Science Communication Symposium in December 2023, and the II SRUK/CERU Science Communication Symposium in October 2024, The Midlands constituency and the Department of Communications and Online of SRUK/CERU come together once again to present the 3rd SRUK/CERU Science Communication Symposium. The symposium will be hosted by the Instituto Cervantes Manchester and will take place between the 25th and 26th of October 2025.
This time, we have decided to highlight the importance of how scientific information must be shared fairly and clearly with everyone using new AI tools and inclusive approaches, and thereby this year’s theme will be:
Science Communication in the Age of AI and Knowledge Equity

The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) in partnership with SRUK/CERU Midlands Constituency, ELEUK and Agata Communications are delighted to invite you to the 3rd SRUK/CERU Science Communication Symposium, taking place at the Instituto Cervantes of Manchester on the 25th and 26th of October 2025.
Now in its third edition, this symposium has become a flagship event for our community, bringing together researchers, communicators, and professionals passionate about bridging the gap between science and society.
The overarching theme for 2025 is: “Science Communication in the Age of AI and Knowledge Equity.”
As artificial intelligence reshapes research and society, and as calls for openness and inclusivity grow stronger, effective science communication must adapt to new challenges. This symposium will explore how technology, language, and equity can work together to make science more accessible, trustworthy, and impactful.
This two-day programme will feature inspiring keynote talks, hands-on workshops, and interactive roundtables on:
- Open Science, Digital Platforms, and Knowledge Equity
- Narratives and ethics shaping Artificial Intelligence
- Multilingual Education and Public Engagement with Science
- Clear Communication and Policy Outreach in Science
We are honoured to welcome an outstanding line-up of keynote speakers:
- Prof Antonio Martínez Arboleda, Professor of Open and Digital Education at the University of Leeds. Her work focuses on bilingualism and bilingual education across all stages, from early years to higher education. She currently leads a FECYT-funded project on the integration of sciences and the humanities (Ciencias+Letras=CLAP) to provide creative solutions to the scientific and ethical challenges faced by the information and knowledge society.
- Dr Franciso Puentes, Deputy Director of the Spanish National Agency for the Surveillance of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA). He holds a PhD in Computer Science. His professional trajectory blends academic excellence with business and public management experience. An entrepreneur in technology and innovation, he focuses on innovation, training, and applied AI. As a researcher, he co-authored the AI curriculum for Galicia’s education system and wrote a book on Intelligent Technologies for high school students. Currently Deputy Director at Spain’s AI Supervision Agency (AESIA), he shapes AI policy and regulation. Internationally, he is candidate for co-chair of GPAI’s General Purpose AI Steering Group, reinforcing his commitment to the ethical and global governance of AI.
The symposium is free for SRUK/CERU members and open to all interested in science communication. Sessions will be delivered in both English and Spanish, reflecting our commitment to communicating science in the language of our host country while celebrating our cultural roots. Participants are welcome to attend one or both days.
We look forward to welcoming you to Manchester this October and to continuing the conversation on how to make science more inclusive, open, and impactful in the age of AI and knowledge equity.
