Eva Junqué

Director, South West Constituency

Involvement in SRUK/CERU

Eva Junqué is an environmental scientist from Barcelona whose work focuses on understanding how pollution affects people and the planet. Growing up by the Mediterranean sparked her early curiosity about nature and the invisible chemicals that shape ecosystems. She studied Biology at the University of Barcelona and later completed a PhD in Environmental Chemistry at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
Eva specialises in PFAS – the “forever chemicals” – and other emerging contaminants. Her work combines environmental monitoring, toxicology and policy-relevant research to better understand human exposure and the impact of pollutants on human health and ecosystems.
After completing her PhD, Eva moved to England to join the Environmental Nanoscience Group at the University of Birmingham. Working on international and interdisciplinary projects strengthened her interest in science-policy engagement and the role of scientific evidence in environmental decision-making. She has published more than ten papers in high-impact journals and collaborates on initiatives connecting science, policy and society.
Within SRUK/CERU, Eva currently serves as Director of the South West Constituency, promoting collaboration, networking and visibility across the scientific community in the region.
Beyond research, Eva is passionate about science communication, public engagement and building supportive scientific communities. She believes that science should help protect both people and the environment, and that diverse voices are essential to building a fairer and more sustainable future.
