Involvement in SRUK/CERU

My name is Rebeca Gavrila and I was born and raised in Zaragoza, Spain. I have always been passionate about Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation, which led me to pursue a BSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Zaragoza and later earned an MSc in Neuroscience from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
After graduating, I moved to Belgium to pursue a PhD at KU Leuven, where I investigated the impact of Traumatic Brain Injury in older adults.
I am currently a Research Fellow at University College London, where I study the long-term effects of concussion in retired athletes. My research work combines neuroimaging techniques, cognitive and motor assessments, and large-scale data analysis.
I am particularly interested in reducing the gender gap in medical research and academia. In particular, part of my work focuses on better understanding sex differences in symptoms, diagnosis, and recovery following concussion.
I am very happy to be part of the Wom=n Research & Equity Committee and look forward to supporting initiatives that promote equitable career opportunities, meaningful professional development, and broader visibility of women in science.
