Patricia Garcia Jareño

Co-chair and Founder Member of the Neuroscience Committee

Involvement in SRUK/CERU

Patricia is currently finishing her PhD thesis at Cardiff University. She holds a Bachelor in Chemistry by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Because she always knew she wanted to study the brain, she did her first internship during her bachelor’s in the Neuronal Regeneration Group at Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid (Spain). Later, during her undergraduate studies she was awarded an Erasmus scholarship to undergo her Bachelor thesis in the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center at Lund University (Sweden). She obtained her Masters in Neuroscience at UCM and during that time, she worked in her master thesis at Instituto Cajal (CSIC, Madrid, Spain).

Previous to her PhD work, she jumped into the industry world and worked as a Research Assistant in the Stem Cell Department at Evotec A.G. (Hamburg, Germany), not only improving her neuroscience scientific knowledge, but her organizational and communication skills.

Her PhD is part of a Marie Sklodowska Curie European Training Network, funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Programme and her work focuses on cell replacement therapies for Huntington’s Disease (HD). During her PhD she has specialized in preclinical work, combining her knowledge in stem cells with in vivo work, to investigate if transplanted human stem cells are able to make synaptic contacts with the host brain and the mechanism behind these connections.

As a neuroscientist, she knows the importance of this committee, not only to disseminate neuroscience research within the field; but also to bring it closer to society!
