Dr Ivan Ferrer Vicens is a molecular biologist and researcher at the University of Bristol, where he studies the regulation of human red blood cell development. His research focuses on how erythropoiesis is controlled at the molecular level, with particular interest in transcriptional regulation and the mechanisms underlying congenital anaemias.
He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Biomedicine from the University of Valencia and carried out his postdoctoral training at the University of Oxford, where he expanded his expertise in gene regulation, molecular biology, and gene editing approaches. He is currently based at the University of Bristol, where he develops in vitro human erythroid systems to study blood cell formation and disease.
Ivan has built an international research career through collaborations across the UK, Europe, and the United States, working within multidisciplinary teams in the fields of molecular biology and haematology.
Within CERU/SRUK, Ivan is currently Vice-Director of the South-West committee. He previously served as Secretary of the same committee and continues to actively support and organise scientific and community activities within the Spanish research community in the UK.
