Daniel Castillo finished his degree in Industrial Engineering in 2015 from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His specialization in Material Science and Engineering arouse his interest in research, especially during his Erasmus exchange in Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden). During that last year, he wrote his Master Thesis in collaboration with a leading company in the manufacturing of materials. The experience proved the value of the joint-venture projects between academia and private sector. After two years working in industry, Daniel moved to London where he started his PhD at the Materials Department of Imperial College. His focus is in the characterization of luminescent materials that could work as temperature sensors. He is closely collaborating with his industrial sponsor, Sensor Coating Systems Ltd., and getting the outlook both from the academic and the entrepreneurial perspective.
