As part of the activities commemorating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11th of February), the SRUK Cambridge constituency is pleased to present this free event hold online on the 15th of February with these 2 great woman scientists:

  •  Dr. Patricia Esquete: researcher at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in the Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM). Her research interests focus on the biodiversity and adaptations to the environment of sea crustaceans, and human impacts on the deep-sea benthos working in areas of the North Atlantic and South East Pacific.  She is also interested in the integration of science and policy, and co-leads the Minerals Working group of the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative. Additionally, she is interested in decolonization of knowledge and intersections of knowledge systems. In particular, she studies the inputs of indigenous peoples to scientific knowledge.
  • Dr. Anna Vilalta: senior scientist at the biotech company Minoryx Therapeutics (Mataró-Barcelona,Spain). Previously she was a research associate at the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Cambridge-Guy Brown laboratory (Cambridge, UK).She did her Ph.D. at the the Neurotraumatology and Neurosurgery Research Unit (UNINN), Vall d’Hebron Hospital, Barcelona (Spain).

Presentations will be followed by a roundtable with Q&A with the audience to address challenges on their interests and their path into science.
