You are warmly invited to an event dedicated to the Camiño Inglés, an ancient pilgrimage route that links the British Isles with Santiago de Compostela. The event will take place on 15 May at 2:00 pm in the Howday Room (KGVI), Newcastle University.

We are delighted to welcome Manuel Mirás, senator and Honorary President of the Asociación de Concellos do Camiño Inglés, and Cristóbal Ramírez, Official Chronicler of the Camiño Inglés and Director of Cuadernos del Camino Inglés. Together, they will reflect on the historical roots, cultural heritage and present-day revitalisation of this transnational route.

The session will introduce Cuadernos del Camino Inglés, an annual multilingual publication bringing together academic research, pilgrim narratives and cultural heritage studies from British and Spanish institutions. The speakers will share insights into ongoing work to signpost and consolidate the route across England, highlighting its growing academic and cultural significance and present the translation of the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle University.

The session will focus on the English Way of the Camino de Santiago and will include:

• A presentation of the Camino Notebook, featuring articles translated by students from Newcastle University. Copies of the book will be distributed to students, along with the presentation of their certificates.

• An introductory talk on the English Way

• Discussions on initiatives in the North East of the United Kingdom and their connection with Spain and Galicia

At 5:00 PM, we’ll meet at “Bar Loco” (22 Leazes Park Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4PG). Join us!
