The Oxford Constituency of the association of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK) is delighted to invite you to an evening of scientific discussion about the future of modern-day plastics. Hosted by the Oxford Martin School, we have gathered an exciting panel of speakers whose views span both the technical and legal perspectives of the plastic problem. Our group of experts will aim to educate and inspire the audience in various aspects of the progress, the actions, the solutions, as well as the challenges, to make plastic materials more sustainable. These include Prof. Eva Blasco (Material Scientist at Univ. Heidelberg, Germany), Prof. Marta E.G. Mosquera (Chemist at Univ. Alcala, Spain), Prof. Richard Bailey (Environmental Scientist at Univ. Oxford, UK), and Dr. Eva van der Marel (International Law Scholar at Univ. of Oxford, UK).
This outreach event will start with a welcome reception during which we will provide free coffee, tea, and biscuits, and, importantly, you will be able to meet and connect with the speakers and other attendees. Our panellists will give short 20 min talks that will tackle different facets of plastic materials, from inception to disposal, and how these elements relate to their own research endeavours. These presentations will be followed by an open roundtable and Q&A session where the public will be encouraged to expose their questions to the speakers in a conversational setting.
The evening will end with a dinner hosted by SRUK at a pub, open to all those interested in continuing the conversation beyond the Lecture Theatre.
