On Monday, 9th October 2023, at 6.00 pm, the 2023 SRUK/CERU Emerging Talent Award Ceremony will be held at the Spanish Embassy in London. This award, sponsored by Fundación Banco Santander, aims to recognise and support a promising young Spanish researcher who has developed their career in the UK.

Fundación Banco Santander and SRUK/CERU will award Dr. Roser Vento-Tormo, Group Leader at the Wellcome-Sanger Institute, the 2023 Emerging Talent Award. Dr. Vento will give a talk about her research career entitled “Mapping female reproductive tissues one cell at a time“. The lecture will be followed by a complimentary Spanish wine reception and networking opportunity among our members and institutions.

All SRUK/CERU members are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be hosted by Mr José Pascual Marco Martínez, HE Ambassador of Spain to the UK. Please get registered using the link above, the available spaces will be allocated in a first come, first served basis. For security reasons, your data will be shared with The Embassy of Spain in London.

Prior to the ceremony, SRUK/CERU members are invited to participate in a networking café with the awardee entitled “Academic Adventures: embracing the UK as a Spanish Young Investigator“. This activity will provide SRUK/CERU members the opportunity to discuss and share with the awardee impressions about the opportunities and challenges of becoming a Principal Investigator.

A number of microgrants (first come, first served) are available to cover part of the travel expenses of SRUK/CERU members attending both, the networking event and the award ceremony from outside London. To obtain a microgrant, SRUK members should send a question to the awardee via the SRUK/CERU member zone by the 25th of September 2023. The registration link will guide you through the instructions to do this.

The microgrants* will be calculated as follows and will be contingent on the price of the travel** (£):
