The Society of Spanish Scientists in the United Kingdom (CERU) in collaboration with the Lilly Foundation invites you to the official presentation of the book ‘Science-me a story’ that compiles the winning stories from the first three editions of our well-known contest. The event will take place in person at the Instituto Cervantes in Madrid on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. CET (6:00 p.m. BST), and we offer the possibility of following the event in streaming for our members in the UK and those who will not be able to join us in person.
One of CERU’s founding objectives is to work as scientific communicators to raise social awareness of research and development in both British and Spanish societies. Framed within this objective, our initiative ‘Science-me a story’ was born in 2018, a writing contest that promotes scientific dissemination in a fun way for elementary school children. The ultimate goal of the contest is to boost the scientific spirit and inspire the generations that will build our future. With this contest, we aim to meet this goal through the communication of scientific achievements, discoveries, methods and anecdotes in short stories in both English and Spanish. During these years it has had an immense reception, receiving more than 200 stories in the latest calls from over 70 countries.
At CERU we are extremely excited to collect all these stories in a book – our first book – and we hope that children, their parents and educators will enjoy them, and that these stories reach our homes, book shops, libraries and schools with in order to foster research among our little ones with this fantastic resource in two languages.
