The SRUK/CERU Neuroscience Committee is delighted to present the first inaugural event of the travelling exhibition: “The art and legacy of Santiago Ramón y Cajal”.

The exhibition will be located at the Imperial College Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CCLC, Exhibition Road Level 3, Sherfield Building South Kensington Campus Imperial College, London SW7) and available to visit from the 23rd of March to the 11th of April (8am to 6pm from Monday to Friday).

The inaugural event will take place on the 21st of March from 1.30 pm and is open to everyone interested in learning more about the figure of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, his role as “father of modern neuroscience” and the relevance of his work in current research.

There are a limited number of microgrants for SRUK/CERU members travelling from outside London. These are available in the members area and will be granted on a first come first served basis.

This is the preliminary schedule for the day:

  • 13.30-14.00. Register and reception.
  • 14.00-14.30. Institutional Welcome.
  • 14.30-15.00. Dr. Fernando de Castro (Instituto Cajal, CSIC, Madrid, Spain). “Cajal opened the path to understand the brain: Science, Art and vice versa“.
  • 15.00-15.30. Dr. Rosario Moratalla (Instituto Cajal, CSIC, Madrid, Spain): “The origin of anxiety and depression comorbid with Parkinson’s disease”.
  • 15.30-15.45. Coffee break.
  • 15.45-16.15. Professor Steve Gentleman (Professor of Neuropathology, Department of Brain Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London).
  • 16.15-16.45. Professor Oscar Marín (King’s College London, London, UK): “The butterflies of the soul, a hundred years later”.
  • 16:45-17:45. Round table. Chair: Dr. Patricia García Jareño; speakers: Dr. Ana Costa Pereira (Director of Centre for Languages, Culture & Communication Centre for Languages of Imperial College London, UK), Dr. Fernando de Castro, Dr. Rosario Moratalla, Professor Oscar Marín and Professor Steve Gentleman.
  • 18.00 – 20.00: Visit to exposition and networking.
