CONNECTS-UK 2nd Open Forum:
“Artificial Intelligence (AI). What does it mean for research, for society and for you”
We are excited to announce that registration is now open for our 2nd CONNECTS-UK Open Forum. The Open Forum will take place on 20 November 2024 at 12:00 (UK time) at Cardiff University (Haydn Ellis Building, Cardiff University, Maindy Road) and online at 13:15 (UK time) and is supported by Academia Europaea Cardiff.
The theme of this 2nd forum is “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, which has been hitting the headlines including by effectively winning the Nobel Prizes in both Physics and Chemistry this year.
But what exactly is AI? How could it affect us in our work and daily lives? How does it affect science?
We welcome everyone who is interested in AI – from interested outsiders, to potential users and leading experts – to join us at our 2nd Open Forum. There will be a lively and frank discussion with leading European experts, examining the potential of AI as well as possible issues. This event is open to all, free of charge, and offers lunch and networking opportunities.
We are pleased to welcome a lineup of esteemed speakers from the UK and EU, including:
- Teemu Roos (the Finnish Center for AI)
- Peter Flach (Intelligent Systems Laboratory, University of Bristol),
- Marco Palombo (Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre, Cardiff University),
- Gemma Newlands (Oxford Internet Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose),
- Cecilia Rikap (UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose),
- Qingxiu Bu (School of Law, Politics and Sociology, University of Sussex),
- Ole Petersen (Academia Europaea Cardiff),
- Jas Pal Badyal (Chief Scientific Advisor for Wales).

This event is the second in a series of six Open Fora that will be held across the UK. The CONNECTS-UK Open Fora aim to foster connections between leading EU researchers and academics based in the UK, showcase their achievements, and share valuable insights with both expert and non-expert audiences.
The event is supported by Academia Europaea Cardiff, part of a pan-European academy promoting research excellence and science for policy, and sponsored by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the UK.
Special opportunities:
