Luis obtained a Licentiate degree in Biology in 2009 at the University of Vigo, and a Master’s degree in Management and Restoration of Natural Environments in 2010 at the University of Barcelona. It was during his Master’s internship when he became passionate about aquatic ecology and aquatic macroinvertebrates in particular, which led him to study a university extension course about macroinvertebrate taxonomy at Rovira i Virgili University. In 2012, he obtained the Erasmus+ grant and moved to the Netherlands to work as a Research Assistant at Alterra-Wageningen University and Research, where he participated in 2 European projects: REFRESH and REFORM. In 2014 arrived in the UK pursuing a career in ecology, and first worked as a Research Assistant at Freshwater Habitats Trust (Oxford). That was followed by another role in 2016 as a Research Assistant at Imperial College of London and the Natural History Museum of London. From 2018 to 2019 he worked as a Laboratory Assistant at UCL (University College London). Currently, he is doing a PhD in aquatic ecology in the London NERC DTP programme, based at King’s College London.
