Pilar Acedo

I graduated as a Biologist from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM, Spain) in 2008. I obtained my PhD in Genetics and Cell Biology from UAM in 2014, with training also at the University of Padua (Italy), Harvard Medical School (USA), and the Institut Químic of Sarrià (Spain). I made notable contributions to the fields of cancer biology and nanomedicine for the treatment of different types of cancer. I also evaluated molecular pathways implicated in disease relapse.

Following the completion of my PhD Thesis, I moved to Sweden to perform a first postdoc at the Karolinska Institute. In 2015, supported by a Ramón Areces Foundation Postdoctoral fellowship, I joined the University College London (UCL). I currently work as a Senior Research Fellow and Junior PI in the Institute for Liver and Digestive Health (UCL Division of Medicine). I lead the basic science research programme of the Pereira/Acedo lab whilst still being involved in clinical studies.

My research focuses on the discovery of early detection biomarkers and the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies to improve the outcome of patients with pancreatic and biliary tract cancer. (Check my Twitter account @pilar_acedo / @PereiraAcedoLab).
