Marta Broto is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London (ICL) since 2017. Her research to date has focused on the improvement of current clinical diagnostic platforms towards personalized medicine. Marta is currently working in Prof. Molly Stevens group on paper-based assay development and nanomaterial functionalization characterization for an amplified readout. Her working areas have been related to clinical diagnostic application in allergies, adverse drug reactions, cardiovascular diseases, oncology and infectious diseases. Marta Broto started her scientific career in the University of Barcelona. She got her MSc degree (2013) and PhD (2017) in Organic Chemistry working in Nanobiotechnology for Diagnostics (Nb4D) Group that belongs to the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC), one of the institutes of the State Agency Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Her research was funded by two fellowships from the Biomedical Research Centre Network of Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) and the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness of the Spanish government (MICINN). During her pre-doctoral training period, she also did a 4-month internship in the Chemical Engineering department of University of California Santa Barbara focusing on drug delivery particles. Marta is also involved in science communication and outreach being a member of Scientist Dating Forum SDF-Talks working group (until 2017) and Spanish Researchers in the UK (SRUK) London Working Group.
