Rafael Leiva

I obtained a bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering and I completed a Master in Industrial Safety and Environment followed by a PhD in Electrochemistry at the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (Spain). After finalising my PhD program, I was awarded with a fellowship at the Institute for Industrial, Environmental and Radiological Safety (Valencia).

In 2013, I joined to the BP International Centre for Advanced Materials at University of Manchester. My research focus has been on the characterisation of corrosion processes taking place in the Oil&Gas Industry and how variations in metallurgy, microstructure and coating processes may help mitigate the damaging process of corrosion. I am currently working on in situ imaging of corrosion and mechanical damage of alloys using electrochemistry and X-ray tomography.
