The Yorkshire constituency organized the VI Christmas seminar on the 8th of December.
The event took place at the Diamond, in the University of Sheffield. The topic of the event was “Opportunities and challenges of Big Data”. We invited four speakers to discuss different aspects of Big Data:
• Antonio de la Vega de León (University of Sheffield) – Opportunities of Big Data for biomedical research
• Daniel Sanz Becerril (DataKind UK) – Opportunities of Big Data for social good
• Itzelle Medina Perea (University of Sheffield) – Ethical issues of the use of Big Data in the health sector
• Gabriela Arriagada Bruneau (University of Leeds) – Foreseeable benefits and potential risks of Big Data in our society
Each speaker spoke for 15 minutes about their topic. After the talks and a lunch, the speakers had a joint discussion with the attendees about the topics covered in the talks.
