Hi everyone! My name is Jorge Mellado and I am finishing my Ph.D. in Ultracold Atoms at the University of Birmingham. I have been using latex since the first year of my undergraduate studies. This means that I used latex for all my lab reports, posters, presentations, articles, thesis…

But, what is Latex? Latex is a text processor widely used in research. It produces high-quality documents in different formats: articles, books, beamers… Despite its look, it is quite easy to use and it is completely free to use, so you do not require any license!

This webinar is for complete beginners, this means that no previous knowledge of Latex or programming is required. The program is very easy to use once you learn the interface, which can look a bit scary if you are unfamiliar with programming. We will use Overleaf which is an online platform for Latex which you can use for free, you just need to create an account and you will ready to take your first steps in Latex with this webinar. The different points of the webinar will be:

  • How to change options in the preamble: document type, font size, packages…
  • Structure of a document: chapters, sections, subsections…
  • Adding images, plots…
  • Equation edition

Join us for a taste of Latex and lose the fear!
