2019 SRUK EMERGING TALENT AWARD CEREMONY

· London · Awards Committee

On Wednesday, 11th December 2019, at 6:30 p.m., the 2019 SRUK Emerging Talent Award Ceremony will be held at the Spanish Embassy in London (24 Belgrave Square, SW1X 8QA).

This SRUK award, supported by Fundación Banco Santander, aims to recognise and support a promising young Spanish researcher who has developed their career in the UK. This year’s Emerging Talent Awardee is Dr Marc Vendrell, Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, who will deliver a lecture about his research career on dynamic activatable fluorophores for real-time imaging of key molecular events in cancer and inflammation.

All SRUK members are invited to attend the ceremony. To confirm attendance to the Award Ceremony, please register HERE by 4th December 2019 (free entrance until complete capacity).

Prior to the ceremony, SRUK members are also invited to join Dr Marc Vendrell in a networking café entitled “The value of an interdisciplinar and intersectorial research: an informal discussion” at 5:30 p.m., also taking place at the Spanish Embassy. This activity will provide SRUK members the opportunity for discussing how to implement interdisciplinary approaches in their current or future projects, and also a chance to share their impressions about the opportunities and challenges arising from the cooperation with fellows from other fields. This networking café will be attended by the awardee and the chair of the evaluating committee, Prof Mercedes Maroto.

A number of microgrants are available to cover part of the travel expenses of the members attending the networking event from outside London. To obtain the microgrant, SRUK members should send a motivation letter of 200 words max by 25th November 2019. The applications will be considered depending on the relevance of this topic to them and/or the impact their attendance will have on the applicant’s career. Students and researchers at early stages of their career, and members attending from distant cities will have priority. Grants for £75, £50, and £15 will be awarded, depending on the travel distance.
