We kindly invite you to the presentation in the United Kingdom of Science-me a Story, the book we published in collaboration with the Fundación Lilly with the aim to promote Science among primary school children. The book collects the awarded stories in English and Spanish of the first three edition of the namesake contest. Each story has been beautifuly illustrated by volunteers. It can be downladed for free from this link.

The presentation will consist of a roundtable with audience participation where we will discuss how we can use the book in education. At the end, we will offer refreshments and encourage networking among the public.

6:00 pm Welcome spechees

6:15 pm Roundtable: The use and unlimited potential of books in education and scientific outreach. How can we use Science-me a Story for Science education?

With the participation of:

  • Claire Culliford: Writer and editor of children’s books, novels and screenplays, including the prize-winning series “The Little Helpers”. She has participated as a storyteller of the Science-me a Story awarded stories for bilingual children at the Instituto Cervantes of Manchester and she has been a member of the Science-me a Story for two years.
  • Jules Pottle: Primary Science Specialist Teacher in Oxfordshire and PSTT Primary Science Teacher of the Year 2015. She has published several books including “Science Through Stories” and “The Molliebird – an evolution story”. She has been a member of the judging panel for two years.
  • Isabel Peset Martin: Lead Scientist working in advanced microscopy for drug discovery. She is passionate about children books and Science and she is a co-founder and organiser of the Science-me a Story initiative, where she combines her two passions.
  • Cristina Gallego: Biochemist who also loves art, she believes that both can benefit from each other. Her interest and skills in graphic design motivated her participation as illustrator in this book. She is also the Chair of the Design Committee of SRUK.

Microgrants

Are you a member of SRUK and you would like to attend the presentation? A number of microgrants are available to partially cover travel expenses.

To obtain a microgrant, contact us at [email protected] with a question to the speakers by 17th of April. Please, indicate the subject of the email as “Microgrants para el evento 22 abril”.

The microgrants will be granted on a first-come, first-saved bases and we will notify the members if the grant has been successful by 20th of April. The amount of the microgrant will depend on the constituency of the member. You can see the amount in the list below.
