History

    The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) started in June 2011, but was officially established in July 2012. This is a summary of the History of the Society, depicting each of its activities, meetings, and events.

    Roundtable "Women & Science" in London

    Round table “Women & Science” organised by The Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs of the Embassy of Spain (OCSA) and SRUK/CERU with the especial participation of four successful women in Science: Prof Utah Frith, Dr Helen Lee, Prof Flora de Pablo and Dr Inés Sánchez de Madariaga. The guest speakers talked about their personal and professional trajectories to an audience of more than 60 people.

    SRUK/CERU and CERFA/SFBD debate about brain drain

    SRUK president, Dr Lorenzo Melchor and CERFA president, Dr Raúl Delgado participated in an online debate organised by UDIMA about reverting the brain drain to brain gain during the IBGE data survey presentation.

    I Science Outdoors in The Midlands

    The Midlands Constituency of SRUK/CERU organised an event named “Science Outdoors” at Loughborough University which included a presentation entitled “Ecology and Management of Ancient Woodlands” by Dr Jonathan Millett Lecturer in Physical Geography at Loughborough University, followed by a guided tour of the 16 hectares of ancient semi-natural woodlands owned by Loughborough University.

    Seminar in Cambridge: "The Theory of Democracy: a Tribute to Juan J. Linz"

    The SRUK Cambridge constituency organizes a local seminar and debate about Political Sociology entitled “The Theory of Democracy and the Legacy of Juan J. Linz”, in memory of one of the most influential sociologists of the 20th century, presented by Dr Jeffrey Miley, Lecturer of Political Sociology at the University of Cambridge.
