History

    The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) started in June 2011, but was officially established in July 2012. This is a summary of the History of the Society, depicting each of its activities, meetings, and events.

    Visit to Leeds, organized by the Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds constituency.

    On Saturday 25th of April, members of the constituency of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds as well as members coming from the constituency of The Midlands, enjoyed a day full of activities in Leeds. After a taxi-boat trip and the visit to the Royal Armouries museum, attendees had lunch and a speed dating activity. It was a great opportunity to get to know other members from both constituencies.

    Networking event IIS Aragón/SRUK in Zaragoza (Spain)

    A networking event was organised by the “Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Aragón” (IIS Aragón) and SRUK/CERU to forge collaborations with the Spanish researchers working in the UK and to promote the joint participation in international projects with the aim to apply to Horizon 2020 funds. This event resulted in a collaboration agreement between these two entities.

    Social Gathering in Cambridge

    The SRUK-Cambridge Constituency organised a new social event, “Speed Science Dating: Make everyone to love your research”, at The Panton Arms Pub (Cambridge) in which participants had the opportunity to talk about their research in a funny way in just three minutes.

    The new constituency of SRUK in Scotland is officially established

    On the 14th of March, more than 20 members of SRUK gathered together in the 4th “Scotland in the Pub” in Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. Participants had the opportunity to learn about SRUK and the meeting led to the establishment of the seventh constituency of SRUK in Scotland. On that day, the local board was elected with Javier Escudero (Director), Nerea Alonso (Vicedirector) and Susana de Lucas (Secretary) and the working group was consolidated with María Rubio, Ester Gangoso, Eduardo Gómez, Idoia Busnadiego, Guiomar Sánchez, Víctor González.     Annual Local Assembly in The Midlands

    SRUK-The Midlands Constituency celebrates their Annual Local Assembly at the Canal House Pub in Nottingham, which included the overview of the events in the past year and proposals for new scientific and social events in the coming year. A new constituency board was elected with Estrella Luna Díez (Director), Sabela Balboa Méndez (Vice-Director) and Pelayo García Gutiérrez (Secretary). The event was followed by a social lunch and a city tour in Nottingham.

    Funding Opportunities Event in SouthWest

    The SRUK-Southwest Constituency organizes a new meeting in Cardiff entitled “Funding Opportunities”, to prepare a document which includes practical information about career opportunities, how to improve your CV, how to access to Fellowships and apply for Grants for researches. This event was preceded by a social lunch.

    Social Gathering in Oxford

    The SRUK-Oxford Constituency organises a social gathering event “Wine, Cheese & Tapas” at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, which includes an exciting new “scientific speed dating” so that participants can have the opportunity to talk about their research in a quick and funny way.
